We are connected to many local and regional organisations to help support our businesses to grow in North Tyneside.

We’ve listed some of the bespoke support for business available in North Tyneside, as well as some wider regional support, all available free of charge to your business

Start-up Support

The Business Factory helps you to take your first steps in business, with start-up support that will help you explore your abilities and look at the reality of starting your own business. Experienced business advisors will give you ideas, start-up support tips and guidance to turn your passion, interests or skills into a business. Open to all in North Tyneside regardless of age, background or circumstances, and you don’t even need to have a business idea!

Business Growth

You can access fully-funded Business Growth support for your North Tyneside business through the Business Factory service. Whether there’s just you, a few staff or up to 250 employees, you’ll find support which is both useful and of value. This includes a dedicated business advisor, one-to-one specialist consultancy support and free workshops.  Get in touch for support with taking your business to the next level.

Recruitment

Tyneside Council help employers to grow their business with employment and help create opportunities for local people.

Support includes: free vacancy advertising, managing the recruitment process, and interview support & facilities.

Digital Pathfinders

Helping SMEs, charities and social enterprises across Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland become more successful and resilient by adopting digital technology.

A free programme of specialised events and expert one-to-one support, Digital Pathfinders demonstrates how adopting new technology can drive productivity and performance in your organisation.

Innovation Recovery Grants

A £1.5m fund designed to enable a green and sustainable recovery by funding projects that have potential to safeguard and create new jobs, build a more inclusive economy, and contribute towards the net zero agenda. 50% grant funding for projects totalling £10-50k.

North of Tyne Growth Fund

The North of Tyne Growth Fund is a £4.6m programme of investment part-funded by ERDF that supports SME growth. You could be eligible for a grant of up to 30% of expenditure, if you are a: Small or Medium sized business ; planning capital investment of at least £67,000. Energy Audits

Rising energy costs are a significant issue for all business of all sizes, in all sectors. The Business Energy Saving Team aims to reduce energy use and costs in small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) through fully-funded energy efficiency audits.

Small Business Grants

The North East Business Support fund offers up to 35% funding for business improvement projects costing between £3,000 and £8,000 (maximum grant of £2,800) - you can use the grant for almost any type of business support that will help your business to grow - from marketing and web design to financial or human resources planning.

Recovery Loans

Businesses in the North Easts can access investments from £25,001 to £250,000 through the Governments' Recovery Loan Scheme. NEL Fund managers are the local deliverers and can offer term loans up to 5 years with no director guarantees or other security taken. Interest rates from 6.75% to 13.25% p/a (based on quantum, risk rating and loan duration).

Exit from the EU

The UK left the European Union on 31st January 2020 and the transition period ended in December 2020. Following the signing of the UK – EU Free Trade Agreement, there are new rules for businesses which came into force on 1 January 2021 which require immediate action New rules apply to things like travel and doing business with Europe. Use the Brexit checker on the Government website to get a personalised list of actions for you, your business and your family.

North East Growth Hub

North Tyneside Business Forum is part of the North East Growth Hub’s business support Provider Network. An online resource, home to the biggest range of business support and events for micro, small and medium sized enterprises across the region. The Growth Hub brings together all of the business support and access to finance that anyone from start ups to more established businesses looking to expand and grow would need together in one, easy to access, digital platform. Local Opportunities

Local Authority Supply Chain

North Tyneside Council are keen to increase the number of North Tyneside-based businesses supplying to the Authority for both large and small contracts. There are a number of opportunities available for local businesses to tender for, all of the update to date tendering opportunities can be found on the North Tyneside Council procurement opportunities page.

Buy Local North Tyneside

To support the high street recovery in North Tyneside, the three local Chambers – Wallsend, Whitley Bay & North Shields – have developed Buy Local North Tyneside. A facility for town centre & high street businesses to raise their profile and for residents to find them and in many cases order online before visiting the high street to collect.
